Why I Chose Social Media Marketing Over Other Channels?

In this article, I want to do something a bit different. I want to speak about my journey, and why I chose social media marketing and decided to do ONLY that. There was a point in my career in which I was a ‘Jack of All Trades, Master of None’ and I decided to go with what I truly love and believe in.

The Crossroads of Career Choices

Stepping out with a degree in data science (yes, it happened), I stood at a junction of diverging paths. The field of data science, though full with opportunity and the promise of stability, did not ignite in me the flame that I looked for in my work life. It was a discipline I respected, one that developed my analytical side, but it wasn’t where my true passion lay.

I appreciated data science — the patterns in the chaos, the stories numbers could tell, but the prospect of crunching numbers and constantly going through datasets for a living lacked something for me. I enjoyed data enough to appreciate its power but not to the extent of making it my life’s work. Instead, I found a way to harness its strengths to fuel my true passion.

My Marketing Journey

In parallel to my data studies, I dabbled in SEO and explored other marketing channels. The technicalities intrigued me, and the results were often gratifying. But while SEO brings visibility, it lacked the direct human engagement that makes brands not just seen, but felt. The interaction, the direct feedback, the community — this was the missing piece I found in social media.

I was drawn to the colors and voices (lots of different creatives) of social media marketing, where every campaign is a living, breathing entity that interacts with the world in real-time. It’s a space where emotions drive decisions and where the science of data meets psychology.

My background in data science didn’t go to waste. It became my secret edge in the social media world, letting me analyze and optimize campaigns with a precision. Data was no longer just boring figures and forecasts — it became a source of analyzing and understanding human behavior and crafting messages that resonate on a (much) deeper level.

The Joy in Social Media Funnels

Creating those deep funnels in social media, where I could lead someone through a journey of emotions and decisions, was something magical — almost exclusive to this platform. The interactivity, the immediacy, and the possibility of crafting a story around a product or a brand were compelling. It was a canvas that allowed for more than just exposure — it offered experience.

Merging my data science background with creative marketing allowed me to get the best of both worlds. I dive into piles of data, extracting insights that shape campaigns not just appealing to the intellect but also resonating with the target audience emotions.

The Final Decision

Looking back, choosing social media marketing over data science or other marketing channels was a decision that shaped not just my career but my daily joy. It was a choice to pursue what I loved, to use data not as the main act but as a supporting character to my starring passion in social media.

This blend of data and desire has defined my agency, where we don’t just push for conversions but strive for connections, and where every piece of content is a dialogue with the target audience. That’s the story of why I chose this path, and every successful campaign is a reaffirmation that it was the right one.

I really enjoy my day-to-day routine and I wish more people around me felt the same way. Don’t give up on finding the right path, continue exploring!
